Custom Gate Service

We are often able to make custom gate sizes for our carriers and scanning solutions. This is subject to our existing order load and whether or not we have the extra bandwidth relative to working on new products and revisions.

First, check to make sure we don’t already have a measurement for your film size. You can find those here.

If we do have the size but you do not see an option for your carrier, it could mean the film is incompatible. But it also means we may not have added it to the list for that particular carrier, in which case you can reach out to us and we should be able to sort that out. You would not need to follow the steps below.

Otherwise, the process is as follows:

  1. You contact us with the basic information we need (carrier/scanning table, gate-size desired, film format) – basically fill out this form
  2. We will assess both feasibility (for instance some carriers simply cannot support certain film sizes) and availability.
  3. You would mail a few well exposed, but not important, negatives to us.
  4. We will use these negatives to work on and validate the custom gate sizing. This may require making a few prototypes.
  5. Once complete, we will let you know and invoice you directly (usually via PayPal but we are somewhat flexible). The cost will be the cost of the closest normal carrier we offer (rounding to the smaller carrier size) plus a $30 custom measurement fee.
  6. If you wish to proceed, we’ll send over the carrier along with your film. Otherwise we will send your film back to you.

If you are wanting something out of scope of the above process, we may be able to do so but those are of lower priority and, importantly, do not come with a return policy whereas the above does.
