Description

A more classic take on easels as compared to our Simpleasel line. It is a mostly laser cut design with some 3D printed pieces which help add rigidity where needed and are used to also contain magnets. These magnets allow the tops to “snap” onto the base (hence the name). The Snapsel 11×14 utilizes a 1/4″ MDF base that supports papers up to 11×14″ in size. Optionally, smaller paper is also supported by ordering the base with additional engraving of paper sizes and purchasing corresponding tops for the paper and border size you would like to use. Available in both fully assembled and DIY variants.

You can get an idea for how to use it by watching our teaser video here. Essentially you place your paper down onto the base and align it to the corresponding paper size markings on the easel. Then you place the top on. I like to start with the, well, top of the top first forming a sort of hinge. Then I can let go and have it snap into place. You can also use Roger’s (Shoot Film Like a Boss) method which is available here. This method can tend to work better with fiber paper since there is a curl.

RA4 (color) printing has not been tested yet. Since you cannot see the markings on the easel (save for the few folks using the very special “brown” darkroom lights), placing tape on the baseboard to help guide you is recommended, although we haven’t tried this yet.
