A glassless adjustable film holder for 4×5 film suitable for use with Epson V-series scanners, specifically the V700-V850 scanners. Tim was not a fan of the hinged OEM holders which made it more difficult than it needed to be to place and remove film.
In this design, simply place a sheet in the inlay. If the sheet is flat, place it emulsion side down as this tends to offer slightly better sharpness. If it’s a little bowed, place it down so it bows upwards in the middle. Then place the top down with the thumb grip on the bottom left. That’s it! Ready to scan! When the scan is complete, lift up on the top via the thumb grip and remove. Then place a finger in the top notch above the film and lift up to remove the film.
For focus adjustments, instead of sliders or screws, the height is adjusted by adding or removing supplied shims from the corner posts. The posts are easily removable by pushing down from the top. Shims can them be added or removed as needed. To reinstall, push up on the posts from the bottom. Like the OEM holders, this holder has the mount posts to mate with the holes on the right side of the scanner bed meaning the base move around and need to be removed when swapping sheets.
