This is the half glass version (we also offer a glassless version). Instead of the standard plastic frame, this comes with a 4×5 Tru Vue Museum glass top. This is not true ANR glass but seems to have similar properties and is much cheaper. It is a beta since not many customers have tested it yet and may be subject to change. In particular the type/brand of museum glass may change while we try and find a supplier that may offer chamfered edges. The glass we currently use has sharp edges, so be mindful of this when placing the glass down on top of your film.
A half-glass adjustable film holder for 4×5 film suitable for use with Epson V-series scanners, specifically the V700-V850 scanners. Tim was not a fan of the hinged OEM holders which made it more difficult than it needed to be to place and remove film.
In this design, simply place a sheet in the inlay. Because this design includes a glass top, if the film is already pretty flat, consider placing it emulsion side up. This lower the change of newton rings. Otherwise place the sheet in such a way that it bows upwards. Then place the top glass down. That’s it! Ready to scan! When the scan is complete, lift up on the top via the thumb grip and remove. Then place a finger in the top notch above the film and lift up to remove the film.
For focus adjustments, instead of sliders or screws, the height is adjusted by adding or removing supplied shims from the corner posts. The posts are easily removable by pushing down from the top. Shims can them be added or removed as needed. To reinstall, push up on the posts from the bottom. Like the OEM holders, this holder has the mount posts to mate with the holes on the right side of the scanner bed meaning the base move around and need to be removed when swapping sheets.
